Gator Beat traces its musical origins to the murky wetlands of the Louisiana Bayou, even as its lineup draws from far-flung points across the globe. Richard Domingue launched the ensemble in Lafayette, Louisiana, where the musicians first refined their Cajun repertoire through regional gigs. David Scott, who had left his native Australia for Tahiti, later joined after sitting in with Domingue during a live set. Guam-born drummer William Blackwell, once part of Big Brother and The Holding Co., came aboard next. Years of North American touring prompted the group to move its headquarters from Louisiana to the San Francisco Bay area. River Gonna Go, the band’s debut, surfaced on Globe Music in 1999. Gator Beat has shared bills with Marcia Ball and C.J. Chernier while also appearing at the Crawfish Festival and Oregon’s Britt Festival. The follow-up album, Lucky Stars, arrived on Globe in 2002.
