Genie Webster first drew breath as a singer and guitarist in Cleveland, Ohio. Seeking independence once she reached adulthood, she relocated in 1995 to Reno, Nevada. The opening stretch proved arduous, yet she clung to her ambitions, sustaining herself through street performances along downtown sidewalks where passersby supplied daily tips under the banner Stranded in Reno. Momentum built when she landed engagements at nearby coffeehouses and clubs. A local newspaper notice in 1996 opened a steadier path when another vocalist sought a collaborator for nightclub and casino work; Webster auditioned successfully and joined the resulting female duo, which performed together for two years before she joined different ensembles. Her debut album, Walk the Dream, was finished in 1999 and contains ten tracks, among them "When I Remember You," "Just Go Away," "Deep Invitation," and "Prayer at the River."
