Originating from Newcastle, England, the hard rock group Geordie achieved its chief renown via frontman Brian Johnson, who went on to front AC/DC. Chart success arrived in the U.K. during 1972 and 1973, highlighted by the single “All Because of You” reaching number six and “Can You Do It” climbing to number 13. Their approach drew from contemporaneous British rock acts such as Led Zeppelin along with assorted glam-driven numbers, all underscored by Johnson’s characteristically gritty vocal delivery.

Guitarist Vic Malcolm had already laid down tracks with Influence and Yellow prior to his stint in U.S.A., the ensemble that later morphed into Geordie and commenced recording in 1972. The lineup remained active until 1976; Johnson subsequently took on session assignments for a few years before stepping into AC/DC following the death of Bon Scott. The remaining musicians staged a brief reunion under the Geordie name in 1983 that produced one album, after which Malcolm’s departure prompted a rename to Powerhouse and the release of a follow-up LP.
