Originating from Holland, Johannes Bouwens records and performs as George Baker, serving as vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist. Fronting the five-member George Baker Selection situated him within the 1970 “Dutch invasion,” a wave that also carried the Tee Set and the Shocking Blue onto U.S. charts. The group notched early successes with “Little Green Bag” (number 21 pop) and “Dear Ann” (number 93 pop), then remained inactive for five years before resurfacing in 1975 with their third and final hit, “Una Paloma Blanca” (number one easy listening, number 26 pop, number 33 country).
