Biography
Georgia Soul Council first assembled in Atlanta during 2010 to serve as the live backing unit behind vocalist Otis Redding III. Their initial approach fused vintage and contemporary strains of funky soul. Once that assignment concluded, the players remained intact and gradually tilted their focus toward jazz without shedding their raw Southern edge or their tightly wound, groove-driven arrangements. By threading jazz-funk and Afrobeat textures through their material, they constructed layered charts built around individual solos, collective vocal chants, and interlocking rhythms that yielded a singular, trance-like alloy. After solidifying their standing inside Georgia as a dependable stage ensemble, the group logged regional dates opening for Antibalas, Lee Fields & the Expressions, Rebirth Brass Band, and additional artists across the southeast. Their first album, Thickens Upon Standing, surfaced in summer 2013 and drew unanimous critical praise.
