Geraldo Vespar, a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and arranger, began his professional career in 1952 at Rádio Anhangüera in Goiânia, Goiás, where he remained active as a club guitarist through 1963. That year he entered the recording studio for the first time as a session musician upon joining Conjunto de Moacir Silva under the direction of Radamés Gnattali.

After 1964 he moved through successive engagements with Astor e sua Orquestra, Orquestra da TV Excelsior, and Orquestra do Maestro Cipó before becoming a soloist and arranger with Paul Mauriat’s orchestra; in that capacity he toured France, the Netherlands, Korea, Great Britain, and Japan from 1973 to 1975. He also released material under the pseudonyms Delano and Gerard, including the LP I Love Paris. In 1965 the O Guarani award recognized his “Samba Nova Geração.”

During the same decade he performed with Conjunto de Peter Thomas and Conjunto de Chiquinho do Acordeom, and he collaborated with Sílvio César on the soundtrack for the film Mineirinho, Vivo ou Morto directed by Aurélio Teixeira. As a jazz soloist in the 1970s he worked in a sextet led by Maestro Cipó, and he joined Elza Soares for tours of Mexico and the United States. In the 1980s he resumed his association with Paul Mauriat’s orchestra.
