Biography
Gerard Carelli, a trombonist and vocalist, was born in New Jersey. After earning his degree from North Texas State University, he moved to San Francisco, where he performed on tour with the Ray Charles Orchestra. He eventually made New York City his home, engaging in freelance musical projects while leading ensembles that range from small quartets to expansive 17-piece big bands. Frequent appearances at prominent Manhattan spots include Lincoln Center during Midsummer Nights Swing, as well as the Rainbow Room, Waldorf-Astoria, and Irving Plaza. Additionally, he has served as a featured performer with the Springs Contemporary Jazz Big Band, which receives support from KCME radio. His discography features two solo releases: Beautiful Dancer from 1993 and Lucky to Be Me in 2001, the latter including contributions from pianist John Oddo, bassist Jay Leonhart, and trumpeter Randy Sandke. Over time, Carelli has collaborated both live and in the studio with artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Mel Tormé, Jean-Loup Longnon, Paul Nash, the One O'Clock Lab Band, and Charlie Persip.
