Gerardo Coronel, who performs under the nickname "El Jerry," established himself early as a corrido and alterna movimiento singer/songwriter. Recognition arrived at age 14 via the single "El Guerrero" and through his authorship of the hit corrido "La Tacoma," later recorded by El Kommander, Julian Mercado, and El Bebeto. The debut long-player El Jerry surfaced in 2017, with Hombres Como Yo arriving in 2019. A series of live albums followed, among them that year's De Lujo en Vivo. Unas Mias y Otras Prestadas appeared in 2020 and received a second volume in 2022. Amid a steady stream of singles, he issued the widely praised La Ratonera in May and Cumbia Aesthetics in December. May 2024 brought the 14-track CHSM El Hifgado X2; by June the artist had already delivered more than a dozen singles.
Born in 1996 in Apatzingán Michoacán, Coronel moved with his family to Culiacan at age 12 while already penning original material. After finishing "El Guerro," a Sinaloa band invited him to join, yet he exited after two years to launch a solo path. His videos drew interest from Twiins Music, which signed the emerging talent. The label released the digital singles "Te Quiero a Morir" and "No Era Penal," then issued the 20-track debut Historias de un Coronel. Strong response to the lead single "Inevitable" and its video, which surpassed one million YouTube views in the opening month, propelled the project up the digital charts.
Promotion continued through 2015 as the label placed numerous tracks on various corrido compilations and routed Coronel across Northern Mexico and the American Southwest, where "Inevitable" entered rotation at many stations. En Vivo Desde Los Angeles documented that border success later the same year. In early 2017 the Joey Balderrama-directed clip for "Soy Poco Malo," backed by Banda La Fantastica, climbed the video charts as the advance single for the second studio album El Jerry, issued later that year.
Immediately after its release Coronel began flooding YouTube with videos and streaming platforms with singles, among them 2019's "El Pariente" and "Lo Se," plus three live albums that included El Vivo Desde Malecon de Los Angeles. The seamless 14-track Unas Mias y Otras Prestadas arrived in 2020, pairing impassioned vocal deliveries with traditional arrangements, while Coronel simultaneously put out 15 singles. Ten further singles followed in 2021, including the charting "Te Deseo Lo Mejor" with Pancho Barraza.
The songwriter returned in 2022 with El Jerry 2022, another live album, and 23 singles. Four charting singles emerged from the 19 tracks released in 2023, among them "Te Felicito," alongside the full-lengths La Ratonera, Cumbia Aesthetics, and CHSM El Higado. Coronel opened 2024 as featured collaborator with Cuisillos on the charting "Al Menos Indicado," then scored again with his own "Tutorial Para Olvidar" before releasing CHSM El Higados X2.
