Biography
Dr. Gervase Phinn has pursued an unusually wide range of roles as an educational adviser, school inspector, professor, author, poet, storyteller, academic, and public speaker addressing educational theories, poetry, the daily realities of classroom life, and methods for encouraging children to read. Across these varied platforms he earned consistent popularity for the breadth of his expertise. Although he produced numerous volumes of prose, verse, and drama intended for both adult and younger audiences, his sequence of autobiographical works attracted the greatest notice. One title in particular, Head Over Heels In the Dales, received especially favorable attention and led to an invitation to read on Radio 4. He also made frequent appearances on British television programs and proved a reliable draw on the speakers’ circuit. In 2006 he served as president of the School Library Association while holding the positions of fellow and visiting professor at University of Teeside.
