Biography
Prior to assembling Get Back Guinozzi!, Eglantine Gouzy and Frederic Landini had already traded musical concepts both formally and casually, with Landini contributing to Gouzy’s 2006 solo debut Boamaster on Osaka Records. Although the band retained the hazy electronic leanings of Gouzy’s earlier material, its overall character proved markedly more high-spirited and playful.
The group’s initial recordings featured a version of “Police and Thieves,” the Junior Murvin composition later popularized by the Clash, and drew inspiration from outfits such as the Tom Tom Club and the B-52’s alongside newer acts including Yelle and Marina & Soko. Launched in 2007 through a trans-channel partnership between Landini in Paris and Gouzy in London, the project soon grew to encompass bassist Regis Laugier, drummer Luc Benito, and guitarist/keyboardist Fabrice Gisiano. Fat Cat Records issued the debut single “Low Files Tropical” backed with “Police and Thieves” in September 2009, followed one month later by the full-length Carpet Madness.
