Biography
As Ghost Power, the duo of Tim Gane and Jeremy Novak crafts playful instrumentals that extend their shared history in experimental electronic pop. Elements from Gane’s tenure in Stereolab, Cavern of Anti-Matter, and Turn On combine with Novak’s Dymaxion background to shape tracks that draw on exotica, motorik, library music, and post-punk through enigmatic and impish lenses, as heard on their 2020 debut single “Asteroid Witch”/“Inchwork.” Both that single and the 2022 album Ghost Power appeared on Duophonic Super 45s, the storied imprint founded by Stereolab, which has long served as a natural home for such distinctive electronic work.
Their creative rapport dates to the 1990s, when Duophonic Super 45s put out Dymaxion material such as the 1998 EP Sound Recording and the 2002 compilation Dymaxion x 4 + 3 = 38:33. Although that compilation marked Dymaxion’s last release, Gane and Novak kept collaborating on music across subsequent years. Working both remotely and in person, they tracked material in New York and Berlin; the resulting single “Asteroid Witch”/“Inchwork” emerged in December 2020 as a limited-edition 7" on Duophonic Super 45s, an outlet that had issued only occasional singles and Stereolab reissues during nearly two decades of relative dormancy. In April 2022 the full-length Ghost Power arrived, broadening the pair’s palette to include whimsical miniatures alongside expansive suites.
