Biography
Sheffield-based Gia Ford channels narratives of outsiders and disconnection via her vividly drawn characters and distinctive twangy arrangements. Her first full-length project, Transparent Things, appeared on Chrysalis Records during September 2024.
Originally named Molly McCormick and raised in Sheffield, England, the singer/songwriter entered the indie pop landscape toward the end of the 2010s after selecting her stage name to reflect the Americana leanings that shaped her earliest recordings. Rather than direct autobiography, Ford favored metaphorical depictions of herself alongside vivid glimpses into fictional lives, beginning with the dreamy, Americana-tinged alt-pop of her 2019 debut single “Turbo Dreams.” She wrapped that year by releasing “God, Cameras, Everyone” and “Poster Boy,” then shifted toward darker textures in the following decade, starting with the jagged 2020 track “Sleeping in Your Garden.”
Following her 2023 signing to Chrysalis, Ford advanced her debut EP campaign with the dusky single “Alligator” ahead of the four-track collection Waiting for the Wind to Change, which arrived in July 2024. Several songs from that EP carried over to her debut album, an LP preceded by six singles that included “Poolside,” “Alligator,” and “Falling in Love Again.” Transparent Things reached listeners in September 2024. Titled after the Vladimir Nabokov novel, the record was captured with session players at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles.
