Biography
Formed in Houston during 2014 by guitarist Cassandra Chiles, the alt-rock group Giant Kitty fuses punk, new wave, hard rock, and riot grrrl into an energetic and lively sound, citing the Runaways, Hole, and Shonen Knife among its inspirations. Chiles recruited singer Miriam Hakim, drummer Trinity Quirk, and bassist Glenn Gilbert to complete the lineup. Their commanding live shows and concise, often witty material quickly built a loyal audience, drawing the notice of Spin Doctors bassist Mark White, who stepped in as manager. Working with White in the producer’s chair, the band cut its debut LP, This Stupid Stuff, and secured a contract with Sony-affiliated indie Innsbruck Records, which issued the album in early 2016.
