Biography
Established in Chicago as an extreme metal outfit, Gigan originated with left-handed lead guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Eric Hersemann, whose approach fuses technical death metal, grindcore, thrash, and psych rock into a ferocious style. Hersemann launched the project in 2005 while based in Tampa, Florida, after sharpening his abilities through prior work with Diabolic and Hate Eternal. The lineup later stabilized as a trio, with Hersemann overseeing all songwriting alongside guitar, bass, theremin, synths, xylophone, and Otamatone; Nathan Cotton on drums; and Jerry Kavouriaris handling vocals. Their initial pair of albums, Order of the False Eye on Napalm and Quasi-Hallucinogenic Sonic Landscapes on Willowtip, appeared during the Tampa period. Following a 2013 move to the Windy City, the group delivered its third studio album, the critically acclaimed Multi-Dimensional Fractal-Sorcery and Super Science, once more through Willowtip. September 2017 then brought the long-awaited fourth full-length, Undulating Waves of Rainbiotic Iridescence.
