Biography
Following the breakup of Flesh for Lulu, its co-founders Nick Marsh on vocals and Rocco Barker on guitars chose to reconvene during 1995 under a fresh moniker and with an intensified, unpolished sonic approach. Dave Blair on bass and Al Fletcher on drums completed the lineup as they established Gigantic in London, England. Initially operating as the Infidels, the quartet abandoned that designation upon learning a Canadian disco outfit had already claimed it. Negotiations with Hollywood Records nearly reached completion yet ultimately collapsed, prompting the band to ink a contract with Columbia instead. In Los Angeles, Gigantic tracked its sole long-player Disenchanted alongside producer Tim Palmer, whose prior credits included the Mighty Lemon Drops, the Mission U.K., and Tin Machine. Issued in 1996, the album enjoyed overseas traction, though domestic indifference from the label prevented any American chart entry. Minimal alternative-radio rotation greeted the title track. To support the release, Gigantic joined the Goo Goo Dolls and Bush for a U.S. trek, but the added visibility proved insufficient and Columbia severed ties. The group disbanded in 1998. Barker entered the techno act the Space Police the following year. Marsh and Barker revived Flesh for Lulu one year after that.
