Enrollment at the Paris Conservatoire placed Amy under the guidance of Messiaen and Milhaud. An encounter with Boulez in 1956, together with subsequent lessons at the Basle Academy in 1965, left a lasting mark on his development as a composer. Amy eventually assumed Boulez’s role as conductor of the Domaine Musical. His scores favor polyphonic textures and exacting technique while incorporating avant-garde resources such as quarter tones.
