Biography
Born in England, the post-bop vocalist Manly commands an eclectic style and wide-ranging repertoire. Considerable acclaim greeted her first album, the 1994 release Detour Ahead. Mark Murphy has singled her out for particular admiration, noting ‘her rapidly developing gifts’. She has nevertheless yet to secure the broad audience that many feel she merits, a pattern shared by numerous young women swept up in the jazz singing explosion of the late 80s and 90s.
