Operating under the alias Gilroy Mere, British folk and electronic musician Oliver Cherer—who has issued albums as Dollboy, Rhododendron, and Australian Testing Labs—pursues experimental paths within U.K. folk. Through the Gilroy Mere project he excavates aspects of Britain’s heritage, reshaping his distinctive sounds via a contemporary perspective. The artist’s first album under this name, the 2017 instrumental set The Green Line, draws inspiration from the historic bus route that once linked central London to its neighboring rural towns and villages. Quirky yet pastoral in tone, the recording incorporates ambient electronics, folk instruments, and atypical chamber pop arrangements.
