Biography
Gina Glocksen, the Naperville, Illinois native, stood out as one of the more unconventional entrants in the sixth season of American Idol. Judges Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell, and Paula Abdul took notice of her during both the Memphis auditions and Hollywood week, which propelled her into the group of 24 semifinalists. She had already tested her chances in season five, where an overt fixation on Simon Cowell secured her substantial broadcast exposure. Sharing similar eclectic leanings with fellow season-six participant Blake Lewis, Glocksen drew from mainstream vocalists such as Celine Dion as well as edgier acts like U2, Green Day, and KT Tunstall. Employed as a dental assistant, she had previously performed with the all-female outfit Catfight before pursuing her American Idol opportunity.
