Listen on Coda
An Italian choirmaster, violinist, and composer, Buonamente produced no fewer than 160 vocal compositions, among them motets, Offices, and Masses scored for as many as 17 voices together with violin parts. His instrumental output encompassed sinfonias, sonatas, and dances. Earlier string writing appeared in three-part settings, whereas later pieces ranged from two to six parts. Three of the seven books he assembled have disappeared. Metrical regularity, violin technique, and distinctive bass lines all figure prominently in his approach.
