The Danish ensemble Girls in Airports constructs expansive, cross-cultural sonic tapestries that blend Nordic jazz and folk currents with indie rock textures. Attention first arrived via the self-titled debut album issued in 2010, after which the group continued broadening its palette across later projects such as Dive in 2020, Leap in 2021 alongside Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and How It Is Now in 2023.

Assembled in Copenhagen in 2009, the original lineup consisted of saxophonist/flutist Martin Stender, saxophonist/clarinetist Lars Greve, keyboardist Mathias Holm, percussionist Victor Dybbroe, and drummer Mads Forsby. Their inaugural release, Girls in Airports, surfaced in 2010 and helped cultivate a dedicated audience through extensive performances across Europe, China, and Brazil. A follow-up, Kaikoura, arrived in 2013, while additional well-received recordings include Migration from 2011 and Fables from 2015; the live document Live was issued in 2017. Around that period Forsby departed, with Anders Vestergaard assuming the drum chair. Vestergaard’s first appearance came on Dive, which also marked Greve’s final recording with the ensemble. Reduced to a quartet, the group issued Leap in 2021 in partnership with Denmark’s Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, incorporating violin contributions from Nils Gröndahl. The same four-piece configuration then produced How It Is Now in 2023.
