Biography
Born in 1966 in Salzberg, Austria, Gisburg built a career as vocalist and composer after beginning her musical studies on flute in her native city. She relocated to Berlin in 1985, where she formed the vocal duo Alliin Gaa with Anna Clenti and joined Dieter Schnebel’s ensemble. New York became her home in 1992, after which she collaborated with Anthony Coleman and Roy Nathanson on the Knitting Factory label while also working with cellist Michelle Kinney. Since the mid-90s she has released three albums as a leader on Tzadik, the first two conceived as “imaginary movie music” and the third, Trust (1999), centered on solo vocal work.
