A composer and violinist, Giuseppe Mateo Alberti drew substantial inspiration from Vivaldi. He entered The Accademia Filarmonica as a member in 1713 and rose to its presidency in 1721. Across his tenure Alberti occupied the presidential chair at least six times, wrote and directed numerous violin concertos and sonatas, and achieved clear recognition in England, where the works’ restrained technical demands, compact design, and transparent expression accounted for their appeal.
