Dan Sena, the grandson of a Portuguese poet, launched Give Until Gone alongside bassist Jim Schwartz in 1997. Once guitarist Jamie Cechin and drummer Jason Welsher came aboard, the group tracked a debut EP, yet their label declined to fund a CD pressing. California imprint Dim Mak, drawn to the band’s emotive melodies layered atop grinding guitars, offered a contract and brought them aboard. Following the appearance of Whatever Works, Keith Divel of Stickfigurecarousel entered as second guitarist. That configuration recorded the quartet’s sole full-length, Settled for the Art Official, which surfaced in spring 2000. Matt Horowitz subsequently took over drums, after which Tommy Coatney was added on guitar; this final roster endured roughly twelve months until Give Until Gone disbanded in July 2001.
