Glampire channels the bleakest strains of pop culture through his work, channeling David Bowie's patterned extravaganzas and Bauhaus' dim obsessive melodies to shape a singular hybrid sound of empowered intensity. He navigates between dark pop conceptions and aggressive industrial selections, realizing his own vision of groundbreaking, vigorous electronic mixed rock while self-producing every release. In this way the musician, producer, and performer extends his cult past the boundaries of songwriting alone. Born David Michael Jahn, he first took up guitar at the age of five and continued his studies through his teens under Robert Fripp. After settling in New York City in the mid-1990s he opened Bedside Studios with the aim of entering the underground scene. Two years of preparation led to his debut full-length, The Beginning of Terror, which appeared in 1997 and displayed his inventive, galvanizing creativity. Pretty Scary followed in 1998, and The Heraldic Universe arrived the next year as his third album. The distinctive musical landscapes and gripping performances drew an expanding audience that soon reached beyond the United States, helped by the online circulation of his recordings and themes. One year after The Soft White Ghetto came out in 2000, Glampire issued his fifth album, Drop Dead Gorgeous, in 2001.
