Biography
Glenn Kotche, based in Chicago, spent his early years in the adjacent suburb of Roselle, Illinois, where his interest in drums and percussion surfaced quickly. He joined the acclaimed percussion program at the University of Kentucky, and after earning his degree he performed with multiple small ensembles until he became Wilco’s drummer in 2001. His playing is featured on the band’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, issued the same year, the 2002 follow-up A Ghost Is Born, and the double-disc live album Kicking Television released in 2005. Kotche also belongs to the trio Loose Fur with Wilco colleague Jeff Tweedy and Jim O’Rourke, and he forms one half of the experimental jazz duo On Fillmore with bassist Darin Gray. Possessing an instinctive grasp of musical time and space together with matching compositional technique, he has issued three solo recordings: Introducing in 2002, Next later that same year, and Mobile, which appeared on Nonesuch Records in 2006.
