Elvar Geir Sævarsson works under the alias GlerAkur, a moniker built from the Icelandic terms "gler" for glass and "akur" for field. Based in Reykjavik, he functions as a sound designer and composer whose hypnotic, undulating sonic textures pull equally from drone, ambient, and post-rock sources while also incorporating elements of black and doom metal. Stepping away temporarily from his duties at the National Theater of Iceland, Sævarsson issued his first EP, Can't You Wait, during 2016; the release earned a nomination for the Kraumer Award, Iceland’s yearly music honor. He prepared the expansive follow-up album The Mountains Are Beautiful Now for the National Theatre’s 2015 staging of Fjalla-Eyvindur & Halla, a drama written in 1911 by Jóhann Sigurjónsson that centers on two well-known Icelandic fugitives. Prophecy Productions brought out the dense, feedback-heavy recording in 2017, a project that enlisted four guitarists, two drummers, and one bassist.
