Biography
Distinct from Will Sergeant's solo endeavor bearing an identical title, Glide emerged as an Australian rock outfit that issued three full-length albums along with nine singles and EPs throughout their activity in the 1990s. The Sydney-formed ensemble began in 1991 under the direction of respected tunesmith William Arthur, whose vision shaped their intense yet tuneful approach, a style the members themselves labeled “wall of harmony.” Their reputation rested on forceful live performances that earned a devoted following within Australia, even as wider international recognition remained elusive despite enthusiastic reviews from critics. Before the band could complete a planned fourth album, Arthur passed away in 1999 after a fatal heroin overdose. In 2000 the five-track recordings captured during a 1998 session appeared under the title Last, supplemented by several intimate four-track home recordings.
