Born Rosa María Coscolin on 1 November 1922 in Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona, Spain, Lasso died on 4 December 2005 in Cuernavaca, Mexico. From childhood onward she sang, reaching substantial popularity throughout the 1950s while working mainly in France. Her discs enjoyed strong sales, including the tracks ‘Amour’, ‘Castagnettes Et Tango’, ‘Etranger Au Paradis’, ‘Padre’, ‘Buenas Noches Mi Amor’ and ‘Bon Voyage’. After Dalida eclipsed her appeal she relocated to Mexico, where a fresh and devoted audience quickly formed. She made regular television appearances, both performing musically and taking parts in drama series. In 1985 she went back to France to sing at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. She kept performing through her eighties, delivering her final public show only a month before her death. Lasso married six times and was survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
