Biography
In 1997, Glossary assembled in Murfreesboro, TN, weaving together the varied inspirations of Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Neil Young, and '80s country music to shape a guitar-driven strain of American rock & roll. The original roster featured frontman Joey Kneiser, bassist Bingham Barnes, keyboardist Maggie Gresham, and guitarists Jason Manley and Gregory Jacks; this configuration launched the group in 1998 via the self-released Southern by the Grace of Location on Champ Records. Their next effort, All We've Learned About Living, arrived two years afterward.
Personnel shifted repeatedly through the early 2000s, yet Joey Kneiser remained the constant presence. The group's musical identity held steady regardless, yielding several albums—including the regional favorite How We Handle Our Midnights—that fused Southern twang with forceful guitar drive. Feral Fire surfaced in 2010 with a further-altered lineup, in which Kneiser and Barnes alone survived from the founding incarnation, along with an additional set of alt.country rock songs.
