Goats in Trees

Goats in Trees remain an evolving project. Jason Crigler and his wife Monica Ann Crigler formed the ensemble in their hometown of Brooklyn during 1997, refining a distinctive style rooted in acoustic and folk traditions. Their debut album, When the Morning Comes, arrived as a self-released effort in 1998 and reflected admiration for Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, and Davey Graham. Local performances throughout the New York area helped the band cultivate listeners and secure rotation on college stations across the East Coast. Bassist Jeff Hill joined later, allowing the group to develop a more grounded approach by the close of the 1990s. Elements of rock and blues entered the mix, yielding a sound at once lighthearted and grounded yet resonant with deeper feeling; the second album, Smoke and Mirrors, captured this quality upon its 2002 release.
