Biography
Toronto-based self-described “nu-funk” collective God Made Me Funky began as a purely instrumental outfit in 1996. To expand the set of covers the band could perform, vocalists were eventually added. By 2008 the ensemble had grown to nine members, among them Kaybe and Lynzie Kent on vocals, Phatt on raps, Danny Argyle on bass, Cam Dougall on guitar, trumpeter Rich Grossman, Benji Perosin on sax, and Arthur Kerekes on drums. The first album, a self-titled release, appeared in 2005 and earned several local honors. Two years later the group issued its sophomore effort, We Can All Be Free. Tracks from that record received steady radio airplay, helping secure a nomination for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards.
