Biography
Godzik Pink fuses alternative pop and rock influences with agile, jazz-inflected melodies to produce singular works of intricate texture. The quartet comprises guitarist Ara Shirinyan, who also performs with Sound of the Soil, bassist Eric Kiersnowski, tenor saxophonist Jonathan Silberman, and drummer Nigel Lundemo, who maintains an additional affiliation with the Uphill Gardeners. Formed in San Diego in 1996, the group committed from its inception to performing exclusively instrumental material. Its debut album, Godzik Pink, appeared on Transparency Records in 1998 and highlighted the ensemble’s bold instrumental approach together with its refined technical command. The following year the band issued Es Em Ekel Em on the 5 RC label. Its third release, Black Broccoli, arrived in 2001 and further affirmed the quartet’s inventive and distinctive instrumental language.
