Biography
Hailing from Brooklyn, the six-piece arty garage rock outfit Golden Triangle comprises vocalists Vashti Windish and Carly Rabalais, guitarists Po’ Jay San Felipe and Cameron Michel, bassist Alix Brown, and drummer Jay High. The three-men, three-women ensemble produces a raucous yet hook-driven style that sits between the Vivian Girls and the most approachable Sonic Youth recordings while also echoing fellow touring acts such as King Khan, Jay Reatard, Black Lips, and Quintron & Miss Pussycat. Assembled in 2007 from players originating in Austin, TX, Atlanta, GA, and Memphis, TN, the group quickly gained notice for its high-energy performances, highlighted by the vigorous dancing of Windish and Rabalais. A series of distorted singles and EPs appeared throughout 2008, among them the Club Bangers cassette and the Prizefighter 7" issued by Atlanta’s Rob’s House Records. The following year brought a self-titled limited-edition EP on Kemado/Mexican Summer; the band also performed at South by Southwest and claimed victory in a contest for unsigned acts. In May of that year Golden Triangle inked a deal with Hardly Art, the Sub Pop subsidiary, which put out the debut full-length Double Jointer in early 2010 along with a split single alongside the Fresh & Onlys that same season.
