Originating from New Zealand, the punk-pop outfit Goodnight Nurse saw their opening full-length release Always and Never enter the upper reaches of the charts upon its arrival in 2006 and generate five charting singles. The group first assembled in Auckland during 2001 as a trio consisting of Joel Little on vocals and guitar, Paul Taite on bass, and Jaden Parkes behind the drums. After Taite stepped away in 2007, the lineup expanded to incorporate Sam McCarthy on guitar and Rowan Crowe on bass. Their New Zealand chart run commenced in 2003 with the Top 20 single “Loner,” followed by the comparable successes “Taking Over” in 2004 and “Our Song” in 2005. Always and Never opened at number five on the domestic albums survey, ultimately issuing seven singles of which five registered on the charts, among them the Top 30 entries “My Only” and “All for You.” The band’s sophomore album Keep Me on Your Side, released in 2008, likewise reached the Top Five and produced additional singles including “The Night” and “I Need This.”
