Gordon Terry ranked among bluegrass music’s premier fiddlers. A native of Decatur, Alabama, he first reached a national audience by joining the Grand Ole Opry at nineteen. He stayed with the Opry for eight years, cutting occasional solo singles for various imprints while also performing alongside Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. His biggest chart success arrived in 1957 with the single “Wild Honey.” Terry made his screen debut in the Western Hidden Guns, then relocated to Los Angeles in 1958 to pursue further solo opportunities. Additional television appearances followed, among them episodes of the Sky King series. He moved back to Tennessee in the late 1960s, where he concentrated on sideman and session duties, and he issued the album Disco Country in 1977. In 1981 Terry released Rockin’ Fiddle; that same year he and Bob Wills were inducted into the Fiddlers Hall of Fame.
