Italy's Gory Blister focus on punishing old-school technical death metal. The group surfaced during the early 1990s, gaining traction locally before reaching the broader European underground scene through their debut full-length Art Bleeds in 2002. Later albums Graveyard of Angels (2009), The Fifth Fury (2014), and Reborn from Hatred (2023) incorporated melodic and groove elements without abandoning the severe death metal framework established at the outset.

The Milan-based trio features Raffaele "Raff" Sangiorgio on guitar, bass, and synths, Gianluca D'Andria on drums, and Paolo "John" Quaglia on vocals. They circulated a pair of favorably received demos in 1991. Drawing from the formative recordings of extreme metal originators such as Death, Possessed, and Necrophagia, Gory Blister refined their unrefined and ferocious approach across cramped clubs, outdoor spaces, and rehearsal rooms. National visibility arrived in 1997 via the mini-album Cognitive Synergy, while a 2001 slot on a German compilation LP extended their reach beyond Italy.

During 2002 the band delivered their first long-player Art Bleeds, which drew interest from Dutch label Mascot Records. Issued in 2006, the severe Skymorphosis advanced the group onto the European festival circuit, placing them alongside Nevermore, Cynic, Sodom, Kataklysm, Virgin Steele, and Sebastian Bach. Graveyard of Angels, also on Mascot in 2009, steered their death metal style toward fresh territory through melodic solos and atmospheric passages. Before the 2012 release of Earth-Sick on Scarlet Records, which included guitarist and vocalist Karl Sanders from U.S. death metal band Nile on two tracks, they had switched labels. Their approach shifted once more on 2014's Fifth Fury, folding groove and doom ingredients into the tech-death framework. The same direction continued on the 2018 Mighty Music release 1991 Bloodstained and the crushing Reborn from Hatred issued by Eclipse Records in 2023.
