Biography
Gospel Claws emerged in 2007 as an indie rock group based in Tempe, Arizona. Its founding members included Joel Marquard, who served as guitarist and vocalist while also acting as a founding member of the rootsy indie rockers Dear and the Headlights, alongside vocalist and keyboardist Sloan Walters, guitarist Wesley Hilsabeck, bassist John Mulhern, and drummer Scott Hall.
The group’s earthy and soulful sound merges bluesy indie rock with wild desert folk, prompting comparisons to Fleet Foxes, Delta Spirit, Local Natives, and the Black Keys. Their self-titled debut EP arrived in 2010.
