Biography
Born on 20 July 1924 in Biscoe, Arkansas, USA, and passing on 15 June 1999 in Gary, Indiana, USA, Brim ranked among the small number of women active in Chicago blues after the war. She performed regularly with the Gary Kings, the band fronted by her husband John Brim. At her initial 1950 session she supplied harmonica and vocals, revealing a congenial if somewhat restrained delivery. She later concentrated on drums, although she reverted to singing and harmonica for one release. A handful of sides bore her own name or the credit Mrs John Brim, yet her usual position was supportive on John’s recordings, where her steady work can be heard on the topical piece ‘Tough Times’ alongside Eddie Taylor and Jimmy Reed. She remained active for decades, appearing both with her husband and in other line-ups, and the couple shared a single in the 70s.
