Graeme Jefferies

In the wake of New Zealand's This Kind of Punishment dissolving during 1987, co-leader Jefferies kept producing an assortment of solo tracks on a four-track machine while charting his subsequent musical path, an approach that paralleled the concurrent activities of his brother and TKP bandmate Peter. The outcome of those efforts appeared as the solo album Messages From the Cakekitchen, issued the next year on Flying Nun yet remaining largely unnoticed until an American re-release brought it wider attention some years afterward. In that same interval Jefferies formed his band the Cakekitchen, which he has led ever since.
