Granfaloon Bus interweaves poetic lyrics with dominant, euphoric melodies while tracing a stylistic path through both Americana and alternative country. The quartet first assembled in San Diego, California, during 1990, with Felix Costanza handling guitar and vocals, Ajax Green on guitar, Jeff Palmer covering drums and keyboards, and Jeff Stevenson playing bass and pedal steel. Shortly after forming, while still based in San Diego, the group issued its debut major recording, It's All Just Parlor Tricks, before relocating to San Francisco a few months later. The band’s second album, A Love Restrained, appeared in 1992 on the Discobolus Records label. As its California following expanded, the ensemble put out the 7" single Coffee Girl/Sip Away in 1994, two years prior to the third full-length release, Rocket Noon, in 1996. Sleeping Car reached stores in 1997, and Good Funeral Weather, the group’s fifth album, arrived in 1999. That same year the musicians also completed Necks & Backs, then contributed a theme to the John Denver tribute disc Take Me Home in 2000. Late in 2001 the band entered the studio to cut its seventh full-length effort, Exploded View, which was released in February 2002.
