Grave arose from Sweden's death metal underground during the closing years of the 1980s. Their appropriately named debut album, Into the Grave, appeared in 1991 and quickly registered with listeners. The follow-up, You'll Never See, arrived the next year and featured the same core members: Ola Lindgren handling guitar, Jensa Paulsson behind the drums, and Jorgen Sandstrom supplying bass and vocals, delivered in the expected guttural style. After the 1993 EP And Here I Die Satisfied and the band's third full-length, Soulless, in 1994, Sandstrom exited in 1996 to join Entombed, prompting Lindgren to assume both guitar and vocal duties. Later that same year Grave unveiled their fourth studio effort, Hating Life. The live recording Extremely Rotten Live surfaced in 1999. A period of instability followed over the ensuing two years, yet renewed activity began by the close of the decade as the group resumed touring and entered the studio. Century Media released the resulting album, Back from the Grave, in 2002. Fiendish Regression, their sixth studio long-player, came out in 2004 and coincided with Paulsson's departure; Pelle Eckegren stepped in on drums. A steady output of recordings ensued, including As Rapture Comes in 2007, Dominion VIII in 2008, Burial Ground in 2010, Endless Procession of Souls in 2012, and Out of Respect for the Dead in 2015.
