Biography
Originating in Albany, NY, the stoner/doom band Greatdayforup derived its name from a Dr. Seuss book and assembled for the first time in 1999. Early on their approach mirrored the spare alt-rock sound of Helmet, owing to founding guitarist Mike Vitali’s short tenure in the Helmet side project Handsome. Steady touring and a string of independent releases, among them the 2004 EP God Loves a Sinner and a 2005 split EP with Jersey stoners Solace, prompted a gradual evolution in style; at last report the group comprised vocalist Michael Diaz, guitarists Jay Sunkes and Mike Vitali, bassist Brendan Slater, and drummer Jared Krak.
