Biography
Grey Lady Down traces its beginnings to Shadowland. In 1992 Shadowland members Louis David, Martin Wilson, and Julian Hunt sought a fresh rhythm section and brought in Sean Spear along with Mark Robotham. Around the same period the musicians learned of another ensemble using the identical name, prompting the switch to Grey Lady Down. A demo tape soon drew widespread notice, leading to the 1994 release of their debut album, The Crime. Forces appeared the next year, followed in 1996 by the third album, Fear. Various circumstances caused the band to disband in 1998, although the live recording The Time of Our Lives still surfaced later that year. Reunion occurred with a revised roster of Spear, Wilson, Hunt, Mark Westworth, and Martin Wright; for a spell they performed under the name Trinity before restoring the original Grey Lady Down. Phil Millichamp took Wright’s place in 1999, after which the group issued Star Crossed in 2001.
