Born Marie-France Gaite in 1941, Gribouille worked as an unpredictable vocalist and composer whose brief run left an imprint on the French pop scene. An early mental health condition placed her in psychiatric facilities against her will. Release from care prompted a move to Paris, where contact with Jean Cocteau opened access to cabaret stages. The year 1966 brought the release of her only single together with her only album. Two years afterward she died from a lethal combination of medication and alcohol.
