Emerging from Frankfurt in 1985, the speed metal group Grinder took its name from an evident admiration for Judas Priest, whose brisk late-1970s tracks "Running Wild" and "Hell Bent for Leather" (though not the ironically titled song "Grinder") are often cited as early instances of the style. Overshadowed by stronger contemporaries such as Sodom, Destruction, and Kreator, the quartet—vocalist/bassist Adrian Hahn, drummer Stefan Arnold, and guitarists Andy Ergün and Lario—issued Dawn for the Living in 1988 and Dead End the following year on the small No Remorse imprint. A brief alliance with the influential German label Noise Records yielded the band's final album, the 1991 effort Nothing Is Sacred.
