Biography
A Houston, TX-based hardcore crew called Grit Boys earned support from Paul Wall while the late rapper HAWK bestowed their name upon them. Poppy, Scooby, and Unique first connected as students at Houston's Worthing High School. Following their feature on Lil O's 2000 album Da Fat Rat wit da Cheeze, the trio forged a close partnership with HAWK that placed them on almost every one of his mixtapes. Paul Wall took over their guidance after HAWK's 2006 passing, including the crew in his mixtapes On the Grind and G-Boy Fresh, where DJ Smallz handled the latter. The group returned to the mixtape scene in 2007 via The Hood's Last Hope. Their mainstream introduction arrived that year through TVT's release of Ghetto Reality in Texas, which included appearances from Paul Wall, Bun B, and U.K. rapper Dizzee Rascal.
