Biography
Grupo D'Alma existed only briefly yet left a marked imprint on Brazilian jazz and instrumental traditions. Assembled in the late 1970s as a trio of exceptionally skilled acoustic guitarists, the lineup shifted over time to encompass André Geraissaiti, Ulisses Rocha, Rui Saleme, Mozart Melo, and Cândido Penteado. Its debut release, A Quem Interessar Possa (1979), carried a title that underscored the musicians’ determination to convey their personal convictions about the art of playing without regard for market demands. The follow-up, D’Alma (1981), secured an invitation to the International Jazz Festival of São Paulo in 1982. The same ensemble later appeared at the Free Jazz Festival in 1986 and completed a final recording before disbanding.
