GT Garza entered the world as Genaro Garza during 1985 in San Diego. When he reached five years old, his family moved to Houston, Texas, where the boy grew up amid an active underground rap community. He began crafting tracks at fourteen, and by the close of high school he had earned recognition in area battle-rap events, occasionally journeying beyond Texas to take part in contests. Universal’s affiliated imprint G Style Entertainment brought him aboard in 2002, placing him on updated renditions of Ashanti’s “Still on It” and Chris Brown’s “Run It.” Once his time with that label ended, the rapper launched his own independent outfit, the Machine, which served as the outlet for successive mixtapes and singles such as 2011’s @itzGarza, 2013’s Brown by Honor, and 2015’s La Maquina. Over time Garza turned greater attention toward his Latin roots and joined forces with fellow Latin rappers, most visibly on the 2015 showcase mixtape Latin Royalty, where he shared space with Lucky Luciano, Andy Yola, Rollie, and additional artists. He maintained a consistent output of projects, moving from 2016’s Dark Dayz through 2017’s Tha Illest before opening 2018 with Brown by Honor 2. Later the same year he issued the solo mixtapes Parachute Platoon and Halos N Horns, while also teaming with Moy Canales for Real Chances and with Risko Funk for Girls: A One-Sided Story.
