In 1972, ex-Rationals frontman Scott Morgan joined forces with bassist Terry Trabandt and Al Jacquez—formerly the singer/guitarist of Savage Grace—to launch Guardian Angel, Detroit’s first regional rock supergroup. Lead guitarist Jeff Jones and Dave Morgan, Scott’s brother on drums, completed the lineup, enabling the band to convert its members’ earlier successes into a sizable following and widespread recognition on the southeastern Michigan concert circuit through their explosive shows. The group nevertheless collapsed after releasing its only single, “Hijackin’ Love”; Scott Morgan subsequently started a band bearing his own name, while Jacquez, Jones, and Dave Morgan soon regrouped in Lightnin’.
